Password Protected Directories
See how to make a secure and user-only area in your web site with password-protected directories.
If you'd like to keep some content hidden from the public eye, you can enable password protection for a certain folder - either the primary Internet site folder or another one below it. In case this option is turned on, a pop-up shall appear each and every time somebody attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login information shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg if you have secured just the domain.com folder. When the credentials are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there is no way to get around this restriction, so you can be sure that no one shall be able access the secured content. The feature may be useful in a number of situations - if only certain people should be able to see certain files, if you work on a website and you do not want people to see it before it's completed, and so forth.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
All of our
cloud hosting plans come with a really convenient tool that will allow you to shield any folder inside your account from unauthorized access with just two clicks. As soon as you log in to your Hepsia web hosting CP, you'll simply have to visit the Password Protection section, to choose the main domain or subdomain, to specify the folder that needs to be secured - the root folder or some folder under it, and then to type in the username and the password that must be used to access the content in question. The feature will be active immediately, so if you attempt to open the folder/website, you'll be prompted to type in the login credentials. You could set up or remove multiple usernames for the exact same folder, if necessary. If you check out the File Manager section, all password-protected folders shall be indicated by a tiny padlock icon.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
You will be able to set up password protection for any content which you have within your
semi-dedicated server account. We've included an easy-to-use tool to the Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will be able to switch on the function with a few clicks and without any difficulties, even if you are not really tech-savvy. You'll simply have to pick the hostname (domain or subdomain), the specific folder which must be protected (the main folder or a subfolder) as well as the login name and password. The protection shall take effect instantly, so if you make an attempt to open the password-protected URL in your browser, you will need to type the newly created login credentials in order to proceed. Additionally, you'll be able to give different usernames for the same folder to a number of people, so you will not have to share the same login details with everyone. Any password-protected folder will have a small padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will be able to recognize this sort of folders effortlessly.
