Custom Error Pages
Discover more about website error pages, exactly when they pop up and why you should make use of customized error pages.
If you have browsed a lot of websites, you've probably stumbled upon some error message once in a while. An error may occur when the web server can't process a request (Error 400), if you must log in in order to see some content and you have not done so (Error 401), if you aren't permitted to access some page (Error 403) or when a link leads to a file which isn't on the hosting server (Error 404). Getting this type of messages could sometimes be frustrating because the pages have nothing in common with the actual website. That’s why some hosting service providers allow you to apply your own error pages that will match the style of your own website and that could have any content that you'd like - details why the error has appeared, a suggestion how to proceed or even some witty comment. This kind of feature shall help you keep the visitor on the website regardless of the error or the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
When you get a
cloud hosting plan from us, you shall be able to set personalized error pages for your sites easily and quickly, because this feature is part of all our plans. After you've created the files and uploaded them to your website hosting account, you should check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia Control Panel and click on the Edit button for the selected domain or subdomain. Inside the pop-up which will be displayed, you shall see drop-down options menus for all four types of errors and for each of them you could pick an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a custom made page. In case you pick the third option, you should simply enter the URL to the file that you have uploaded and save the change. Another way to set personalized error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder and to include a couple of lines of code in it. In case you don't have prior experience or if you are simply uncertain how to do that, you can just copy/paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that matter.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
All
semi-dedicated plans which we supply support custom made error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this feature. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your CP in which you'll have to type in the links to the custom-made files via very simple drop-down menus and an intuitive interface. Of course, you must upload them inside your account before that. If you do not want to employ this feature at some point, you could deactivate it just as fast and pick an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable when your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you can also use an .htaccess file to activate the customized error pages. The file should have a specific line of code plus a link for every error type and you may discover an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
